Another difference from the 1934 series is "Washington D.C." has been moved from under the series to above the "FIVE". Also, on the obverse on the right side of the bill "FIVE" and the treasury seal have been made smaller in size. Past series (1934) had the numeral "5" printed in blue. The series 1953 bill can be differentiated from past series by the gray numeral "5" on the left side of the obverse.
The reverse of the bill features the Lincoln Memorial and is in the style we know today. The obverse features a cropped version of Abraham Lincoln's portrait that was previously featured on the small size $5 Silver Certificates. Series 1953 was the second and last series issued. Series 1934 $5 Silver Certificates were the first small size $5 Silver Certificates issued. In 1929 all US Currency was changed to its current modern size.
